Why Most Renovations Go Wrong
Scroll down to see how a considered and thoughtful process can take the stress out of your renovation
A Typical Renovation
You hire an architect to design your renovation. Plans are developed based on your goals, along with a preliminary estimate of costs. However, because many architects are not deeply involved in construction pricing, budgets are often less accurate than expected — leading to surprises once construction pricing begins.
Once drawings are complete, contractors bid on the project. These bids often vary widely in scope and detail, leaving homeowners to compare pricing, interpret drawings, and evaluate what is actually included.
Construction begins. When issues arise, contractors may blame the drawings while architects question execution. Homeowners are left navigating communication between separate teams with different priorities.
Finish selections, fixtures, and materials are often finalized late in the process. Delays, missing items, or incorrect orders can impact both timeline and budget.
What begins as an exciting renovation can quickly become stressful, fragmented, and difficult to manage.
A Design-Build Renovation
At McGregor Design Build, we begin with a detailed design brief focused on how you want to live in your home. Design, interiors, budgeting, and construction planning develop together from the start.
Because our design and construction teams collaborate throughout the process, budgets are developed earlier and refined alongside the design — allowing informed decisions before construction begins.
Materials, finishes, lighting, and interior details are integrated into the process early, creating a more cohesive final result and reducing costly revisions later.
Once plans are complete, our construction team executes the project in close collaboration with the design team, ensuring the finished home reflects the original vision.
We manage permitting, coordination, scheduling, procurement, and communication throughout the project — giving clients a single, accountable team from beginning to end.
The result is a more thoughtful renovation process with fewer surprises, clearer communication, and a home that feels fully considered in every detail.
