Ocean Avenue 1890s Brownstone
When our clients purchased an 1890s Brownstone in the Greenville section of Jersey City, the building had been renovated to be quickly flipped, complete with beige polyester carpet and cheap tile throughout. Using creative solutions to work within the existing layout, we transformed it into a vibrant family home, revealing the floors and original details of the historic home.
The bookcase was custom designed and built to house the Owner’s extensive book collection, and also to disguise unsightly build outs in the wall, where previous renovations had boxed in plumbing pipes from the upper floors. The chair is vintage from the 1960s.
The mantelpiece was found in pieces in the basement and re-installed.
The master bedroom at the back of the house has views over New York harbour, and was created by combining two rooms into one. The wall of wardrobes (just seen) add warmth and character, and are from IKEA.
The bathroom was reconfigured to create a separate bathing area, while the thickened wall conceals pull-out storage. The antique door with privacy glass was sourced to let light into the hallway.
